  • Car Storage Possibilities
By joel on July 11, 2011 | No Comments Comments
Car storage can be a very complicated process. You first have to look at location, security, and of course, price.  Typically these are three things that people look at when they are looking for car storage. They do not want to go very far to get to their car, thus location is very important. Customers want to ensure that their car and investment is safe, which would mean they want to ensure security is important. Lastly customers want to know how much it will cost them in order to store at the self storage facility. The customer might call the facility manager to know how much it will cost to store their car, but they really want to know about the other two important aspects of car storage.
There are also several different kinds of parking spaces available. A customer can store their car inside a self storage unit, outside on the parking lot uncovered, or under a car port on the lot. Which option the customer goes with is totally up to the customer. The customer might not have a choice if self storage facility does not have more than one option to store their car. So before calling around, the customer must decide which car storage option is the best for them.
Outside parking is as simple as having a parking space outside, while inside spaces are more like a garage.  The garage spaces are much more secure, but are also more expensive.  Location plays a part, since you will most likely be using the vehicle at least some of the time.  Storing outside for most places is a very inexpensive option, but if you are concerned about the safety and security of your car, you might want to consider inside storage. Some storage facilities have door alarms on the garage door which is an added level of security to for your car.
The vehicle must be in running condition in order to be stored at most facilities.  If you are looking to use your self storage facility for a work space, you will have to contact your property manager because they will have to make that decision. Most of the time, the manager does not want someone potentially messing up their storage unit with fluid from the car. You can definitely ask, but most likely the answer will be no.

  • Seasonal Car Storage
By joel on June 22, 2011 | No Comments Comments
The wintertime is all about car storage for many areas. A lot of people do not want to leave their vehicle out in the cold, so storage provides a wonderful solution to this problem. If you shop around for car storage, you will find that there are two main types. There is inside or outside. Inside is the best choice if you are looking to keep the vehicle out of the elements.
Even though many people know that inside car storage is the best idea, they still entertain the idea of storing outside. Depending on where you live, winter can be very harsh. So with that said why would want to store outside? You are most likely looking for storage because you do not want to park your car outside. It would make more sense to store inside. Why don’t more people jump at the idea of storing inside?
The reason people do not jump at the idea of storing inside is that most facilities have higher prices storing inside. Not everyone wants to pay the necessary money to store inside. There are some self storage facilities that will have the difference in price from outside to inside be doubled. When they see that, they try to figure out another way to store their car. If they do not have any other option, they go ahead and pay the monthly rent.
There will be some facilities in your area that will offer a great rate for inside storage. For those facilities they will not have any problem renting out storage units. Typically an average car and fit inside a 10×20 space. If you try to fit your car into anything smaller than that, you could run into some issues. When the self storage manager offers that size, make sure that you pay attention. They have been in the industry a long time.
Storing outside is what many people want to do, but in the wintertime, it is not always feasible. Pay the necessary monthly rent to store inside and get the added security of your car being inside a storage room behind a door and lock. No outdoor elements will affect your car. That is the reason you are looking for inside storage.

  • Premium Inside Storage

When storing a vehicle there are some things to decide. The first and biggest decision is whether or not you want to store your car at all. What is the reason that you are storing your car? What ever the reason you are storing your car you need to find a self storage facility that is able to store it for you. You might have some calling around to do but hopefully you will not have to search far when you need a parking space.
There have been many discussions about whether or not to store your car inside or outside. That is a decision that is up to the person wanting to store their car. Many people who have vehicles typically want to store them in a garage style enclosure versus and open parking lock. Most homes do have garages or some sort of covered parking on it because people want their car protected against the elements. With that said, let us talk about all the advantages to storing your car inside of a storage unit.
Indoor parking would be considered the premium out of all of the spots. Think about it. You would have your own space to pull in and out of. It is your own garage space. You do not share it. Close the slide down door on your way out and put a lock on the door. Of course, this is going to cost a few extra dollars, but you truly get what you pay for. If a big storm comes through the area, your car will be protected against it inside of your storage space. That should give you peace of mind while storing your vehicle in your premium parking space.
The debate of parking your car inside or outside will go on for a very long time. Sometimes the choice is up to the storage facility. They might not have both of the parking options available for you. Most do have inside parking available though. There are not many people who want to have empty parking space available when they are able to charge more for a completely enclosed space. Still in the end, the decision is yours on where you want to park.

  • A Storage Unit Can Help You Keep a Few Secrets
By jeff on March 11, 2011 | No Comments Comments

Ashleigh was planning the best surprise for her husband’s birthday ever. Last year he had taken her to one of the many car shows that he loved to go to and had fallen in love with one of the classic cars there. He told her stories of how his dad use to have a car just like it and how they would spend Saturdays tinkering around with it and several stories about great times that he had with his dad working on the car or just ridding in the car with him. It got her to thinking and she had been looking for a car that was just like that one for her husbands fortieth birthday the following year.

Now his fortieth birthday was weeks away and she was having trouble keeping her surprise a secret. six months ago she had found the car that she was looking for and had taken her father in law with her to look at it make sure that I was in good condition and that she was getting a good deal. She had bought it that day and moved it into an Oshawa, Ontario self storage unit to wait to give it to him on his birthday.

It had been the longest six months of not telling him the secret, but Ashleigh was determined that she was going to wait until his birthday. The day of the party came and Ashleigh was dieing to give it to him as soon as he woke up but she managed to wait until the party. Once the party was in swing she and his best friend escaped the party and went to the Oshawa self storage unit to get the car out of hiding. It was a stick shift so Ashleigh had to take someone to help her drive it since she didn’t know how to drive stick.

She called the house when they were coming up the street and told her husband to take the part out into the front yard. He was really confused about what she was up to, and really wanted to know what she had done, but she just laughed and told him to go outside. When they pulled up in the car that was just like his dad with a huge bow on the top Ashleigh was glad that she had waited to give him the car. His mouth was hanging open and he looked like he was going to pass out at any moment. He had his hands on his knees and was just staring at the car.

She gave him a kiss and told him happy birthday and he went crazy. He picked her up and twirled her around and started screaming. He circled the car looking at it from several different angles, and everyone was laughing at his exuberant reaction.

She gave him the keys and told him to take a test drive. As he went to get in the drivers side he stopped and turned back around. He looked at his father standing there smiling at him, and asked his dad if he wanted to ride with him. The two took off with a squeal of tires and Ashleigh could not have been happier to see them head off together.

When he got back Ashleigh confessed her scheme and all about taking his dad to buy the car and hiding it in an Oshawa storage unit for the past six months and how hard it was for her to hide it from him.

  • From Storage to the Freedom of the Open Road
By jeff on March 10, 2011 | No Comments Comments

Now that they were retired Ken and Cindy had lots of time to do the things that they had always talked about doing some day. They had decided that it was time to stop saying some day, and start saying today. There were places that they wanted to see, old friends that needed to be reacquainted with, and grandkids to visit and spoil. Right before Ken retired they decided that in order to do everything that they wanted to do it made sense for them to buy an RV. This would allow them to travel as they please without having to worry about finding hotel accommodations where they went and if they got to a destination and decided to travel on further they could go where they wanted.

While Ken searched out different RVs in the area Cindy was researching the different Milton, Ontario self storage locations that had RV parking. There was no way that they could park it in their driveway and they were sure that the neighbors would not appreciate it being parked on the street. However, if they found a Milton self storage facility that had RV parking it could be there for them when they were ready to head out.

With a few RVs on the top of the list, and two possible Milton self storage location near their home that had RV parking they set out on a quest to find what they were looking for from both of these items. They started with the Milton storage locations so that they would be assured that if they found an RV that they wanted to purchase today that they would have a place to park it.

The two Milton self storage locations were very similar but one was a little bit closer to their home and so they choose location as their deciding factor. Now they just needed an RV to put in their spot. Ken and Cindy headed off to find the perfect RV for them.

There were several that they liked, and in the end they decided on one together. It had everything that they were looking for from their RV and they were so excited to take it on their first trip. They had already decided that the first trip would be a long one. They were going to head to their sons house to see his family and they keep heading out to visit some of the national parks that were in that area that they had talked about going to. They figured that for the first trip they might be gone somewhere between a week and two weeks.

When they got back from their first trip they took the RV over to the Milton self storage facility and parked it in their spot. Cindy made sure that the inside was all cleaned up while Ken worked on the outside. It was a great first trip for them and their RV and they were glad that they had decided to make the purchase. They went home that night and got out a map to see where they might want to go on their next trip out. They had so much fun that they were planning on taking their second trip pretty soon. They were newly retired and it was time to come and go as they pleased.

  • Providing More Options for Your Storage Customers
By jeff on March 3, 2011 | No Comments Comments

If you are looking to increase rentals on your Don Mills storage units and want to have a quick and easy way to do that, you should consider offering vehicle storage. Car storage is very popular in Ontario and you can capture a share of that market very simply. There are probably Don Mills storage units that you have that you could very easily turn into car storage units. The size for car storage units is usually the same as what units can hold a two bedroom house.

A ten by twenty space is perfect for car storage. It is about the size of a one car garage and can hold most sizes of cars and trucks. Smaller cars can even fit into Don Mills storage units that are ten by fifteen. This would have to be a pretty small space, though. Be careful when recommending a ten by fifteen to callers because there are not that many cars that can fit into the space.

There are basically two types of car storage. There are the outside spaces that customers in Ontario can just park their cars in. Since they are outside, they will be exposed to the weather so this may not be the best option for some callers. The major benefit of an outside parking space is that it is a lot cheaper and customers will be able to store their vehicles at a greatly reduced cost.

The Don Mills storage units that will protect cars the best are the inside spaces. They are just storage units that people can put their cars in. This will offer the best protection from the elements, but will cost more than an outside space. Make sure to build the door heights high enough so customers can easily get their vehicles in and out. The best way to ensure that customers can fit their vehicles in is to build units with a ten foot ceiling instead of the normal eight foot ones.

There are few stipulations that you will want to have when you are using Don Mills storage units to store cars in. The car needs to be in running condition in order for it to be stored. The main reason for this is so people do not just bring in junk cars and then leave them there. This will cost you money since you will need to tow vehicles off your property and will make your site look like a junkyard. You want to maintain a professional image as a company and junky cars can ruin your company image.

The car will need to be titled and insured. This is more of a legal issue as opposed to just a personal preference. This will help you avoid storing stolen cars. This is not a good business to get into. The car will need to have minimal gas in the gas tank. This is necessary because a full tank of gas will be a fire hazard and it will make the unit smell like gasoline. It is hard to get that smell out of the units once it is there. Another thing that you will want to do is offer storage for boats and RVs. This could be a good money maker that will bring in a lot of extra revenue.

  • Storage Facilities Have Room for All Your Vehicles
By jeff on March 1, 2011 | No Comments Comments

There are a lot of things that you need to keep in mind when searching for Bloordale Gardens storage units for your belongings. There are many things that you can store in Ontario if you take the time to shop around long enough. You should look on the internet for storage locations if you are looking for an odd request for storage. There are Bloordale Gardens storage units for pretty much every occasion.

The most common reason people get Bloordale Gardens storage units is to store household items. There could be a variety of reasons that someone may need to store household items. They could be going through a foreclosure or eviction from a rental property. They could be staging a home in preparation of selling it or just clearing out a garage. Some students will need to store when school is not in session just to save money on moving their things back and forth each year. There are a lot of sizes of storage and the manager at the property can help you find the best size when you call in to get prices.

There are Bloordale Gardens storage units for pretty much any type of vehicle. The ten by twenty space is perfect for most standard cars and trucks. It is about the size of a one car garage and will be the best way for you to take care of your vehicle while you are storing it. Most properties in Ontario will offer inside or outside storage spaces and the outside spaces are going to cost a lot less if you are looking to save a little bit of money.

If you are looking to store a boat or RV, you may have trouble finding Bloordale Gardens storage units that are big enough for you to store in. You may have to look into getting an outside space to be able to store. There are a few locations that will have indoor RV parking, but they are typically hard to find and will cost you quite a bit. There are some facilities that have warehouse style parking. You can also store boats and trailers in these huge buildings.

When you are storing a boat or RV you may have to put down a security deposit that you will get back when you no longer need the space. There may also be stipulations on length of stay and it may not be on a month to month basis. When you are storing an RV there are a couple of things that you want to look for in a storage facility. It needs to be in a safe area so that nobody can break in and steal or vandalize your RV. The site should also have wash bays and dumping stations so that it is a one stop shop for all of your RV storage needs. Take a look around and try to find a facility that has these amenities.

When you are storing any type of vehicle, there are going to be stipulations that you must adhere to when storing. It will typically need to be in running condition, titled, registered, and insured. These are pretty common requests so you should expect them wherever you plan to store. Ask the manager when you call if they have any other requirements.

  • Rules for Car Storage
By jeff on March 1, 2011 | No Comments Comments

If you are looking to put a vehicle into one of the Berkshire Village storage units in the area, then you need to know what the stipulations for storage in Ontario are. The rules are pretty much universal so you can count on most them applying at every location that has Berkshire Village storage units for vehicles. You should keep in mind that not every facility will offer storage for vehicles so you may have to do a little research in the phonebook or on the internet before you start calling around.

The location is important for customers who are looking to access their Berkshire Village storage units on a regular basis. If it is a situation to where you are going to put the vehicle in storage and only return when you need to move it out, such as military deployment, the location probably is not as important to you. The car must be in running condition in order to be stored. All the rules in Ontario are there for a reason. Most facilities will not store vehicles that do not run because of the risk of the vehicle being abandoned. In addition, it makes the facility look trashy to just have a bunch of junk vehicles stored on the premises. It is very common for vehicles that do not run to be abandoned since there is not much value in the car. Any site that will store broken down vehicles will have a deposit on the initial move in to cover any future towing costs that may occur.

The title owner of the vehicle must be the one that signs for any Berkshire Village storage units for car storage. The paperwork of the title and for the storage unit must be in the same name. This is just to prevent the storage of stolen cars. This was a problem at one point in time so the solution was to make sure that the car was titled in the storage signer’s name. The car must also be registered.

Any vehicle that goes into Berkshire Village storage units must also be insured. This is more of a legal issue than anything. All cars need to be insured by law. If you call your insurance provider, they probably have lower rates for vehicles in storage so this would be a good call to make.

Some sites will require that there is minimal gas in the gas tank if it is going to be stored inside one of the units. If you are looking for an outside space, this is probably not much of a concern. Cars with a full tank of gas inside a unit would be a potential fire hazard. Also, the unit will smell like gasoline long after the car is moved out of the space. This is the same with lawn mowers and other lawn equipment.

You can store your vehicle outside or in one of the storage units. It just depends on what your priorities are when storing. The outside spaces will be quite a bit cheaper, but will fail to offer the protection from weather elements that an inside space would offer. The inside spaces are typically ten by twenty. Make sure you are aware of the door heights so you can get your vehicle into the space.

  • Prepare Your RV for Winter Storage
By jeff on February 15, 2011 | No Comments Comments

Okotoks, Alberta Canada has a lot of diverse activities to choose from.  One can hunt in the morning, hike at the noon times and spend the rest of the day fishing in one of their great lakes.  One of the things that makes activities like these even better is having a recreational vehicle or RV.  With the RV, one can hunt in the morning, take a nap in the RV, take a hike, shower and change in the RV and then go fishing.  Then they can bring the catch back to the RV camp site for an evening of fried fish over a camp fire.

But one of the other things to think about when living in Okotoks is their harsh winters and winterizing and storing an RV is not something one should think about lightly.  He is a quick list of things to think about when storing an RV for the winter.

First and foremost, contact a self storage location, such as Okotoks Self Storage, to see if they offer RV parking space. The next step is to winterize. Drain fresh water tank to ensure that the water doesn’t freeze over the winter and burst the tank.  There is nothing like coming back in the spring to use the RV just to find it in need of a bunch of repairs. Drain hot water heater.  This is easy to forget.  But a frozen hot water tank is no fun. Dump and flush both black and gray water holding tanks, leave gray water valve open. Screw compressed air adaptor into the fresh water inlet. The adapter is available from most RV dealers. This will allow you to apply compressed air, keeping the pressure less than 20 lbs/sq inch. Then open each faucet, one valve at a time, allowing the compressed air to force the water out of the line. Don’t forget the shower and toilet.  This will remove any excess water from the water lines.  Remove the drain plug from the hot water tank and allow the compressed air to blow out the remaining water. Reinstall drain plug.  Forgetting to reinstall the drain plug can cause for a mess when filling the tanks with water in the spring. Then remove the compressed air source and adapter.  This will have ensured that the water has been blown free from the hot water tank and all of the lines. Close the water heater by-pass valve. Remove the water line that runs between the fresh water pump and the fresh water tank, where it joins the fresh water tank and insert the end of the line into a gallon jug of RV antifreeze. (NEVER-NEVER-NEVER USE AUTOMOTIVE ANTIFREEZE).  Start the fresh water pump. It will run for a few moments, sucking antifreeze from the jug. It will stop as pressure in the system builds up. Open each valve of each faucet, one at a time, until the red antifreeze appears, shut the faucet. Then remove the line from the jug of antifreeze and reattach it to the fresh water tank.

By following these easy steps one can ensure that having a RV is a fun experience.  Remember, if you need the space for the winter, check out some of the great self-storage options at Okotoks Self Storage.  The folks at Okotoks Self Storage will help you find a great space to store your investment.

  • Park Your Car in Storage
By jeff on February 4, 2011 | No Comments Comments

Most of us don’t give much thought to the idea of storing our cars long term.  Each morning we go out to our driveways or into our garages, get in our car and go to work, run errands or take the kids to school.  When the day is done we park the car back in the garage on in the driveway for the night and the next day start again.

But what if your company temporarily transfers you away from home for several months?  What do you do if you serve in the military and are deployed? Maybe you maintain a winter or summer home out of state where you live for months at a time.

Driving your car isn’t always an available, or desired, option.  Maybe you can leave the car in the garage, but if you have family remaining behind that may not be an option.  Leaving it parked in the driveway for months of end isn’t an ideal option, and you definitely don’t want to leave your car parked on the street.  For many of us, our car is one of our biggest investments.  So what should you do?

You should consider renting an Alderwood, Ontario self storage unit. With a variety of sizes available, many storage units are equipped to easily store a full-sized car, SUV or pick-up truck.  Smaller units are ideal for a compact vehicle or motorcycle.  Well trained staff members will work with you to ensure you won’t rent any more storage space than you actually need, and with month to month leases available, you can rely on the fact you’ll only have to pay for storage for as long as you need it.

Storing your car or truck will provide you with the peace of mind that is knowing exactly where your vehicle is at all times and knowing it’s in safe hands.  Keeping your vehicle in an enclosed storage area will protect it from the elements, which will preserve the physical condition of your car and increase its longevity.  Gates with required, secure keypad access, well lit parking lots and 24-hour video surveillance help guarantee your property will be protected from theft and vandalism.

Alderwood self storage isn’t just an option for those who need a place to keep their operable vehicle while they’re away.  It can also be a convenient choice for the amateur mechanic who needs a place to keep their pet project.  Restoring or repairing a car is an enjoyable past time for many people, but it’s not always convenient or aesthetically pleasing to keep such a project in your garage or driveway.  Store your fixer-upper in a secure storage unit along with your valuable tools and work on your dream car at a pace that suits you.

No matter the reason, if you have a car, SUV or truck that you’re not driving on a day to day basis, you should consider Alderwood self storage.  Affordable and convenient options are available to you, helping to guarantee the safety of your vehicle without taking up space in your garage or driveway.
