When To Heat Self Storage UnitsBy admin on April 8, 2009 | 2 Comments
When looking around for a place to put your belongings, there are a lot of things to consider, security, moving supplies, and location just to name a few. One thing that people continue to overlook, especially in the summertime, is whether to get a garage style unit or to go with one that is heated. This is a lot trickier to answer than it may first appear.
For some shoppers, it is not that hard of a decision. They may think that since a standard type of space, or a garage type unit, is cheaper then it would be obvious to go ahead and just rent that unit. This can be a very bad mistake but a decision that a lot of people will make. In a garage type unit it is very likely, depending on what state you live in, that you could completely ruin some of your belongings while storing them. This would be especially true if the items were left in there all winter long. Some areas of the country, such as the entire southwest corner of the nation, it would not make a big difference if you had heated self storage or a standard space since it does not typically get that cold in those areas.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, the reverse mistake can be made as well. If the price difference is not that great then a lot of times the potential customer will just decide to go ahead and take the temperature controlled space instead of the cheaper standard garage space. This can be a very costly error and one that can be very easy to make for any potential tenant. If you are only storing boxes and clothes or just random stuff out of your own garage in an attempt to reclaim you garage space, then there is no reason to spend the extra money on heated self storage when it is not being kept warm currently. If you could just assume that one unit is one hundred dollars and the standard space is five dollars cheaper. It may not seem like that much of a difference but actually over the course of a year it would be a sixty dollar price difference and over the course of a decade it would cost more than six hundred dollars. Nobody in their right mind would honestly throw money in the trash but when you look at it from this perspective, it is exactly what is taking place when you get heated storing when all you need is standard.
Now to be clear, sometimes it is very important to get a proper space to fit your needs. A great example would be if you had electronics that you want to make sure to take good care of. For instance, computer equipment of any kind and also televisions or any kind of home theater equipment would be a good example of items that would definitely require that you get heated storing as opposed to a standard unit. Also, if you are storing nice leather furniture it would not be a bad idea either. Just make sure that if a heated Etobicoke storage is needed then get it. If it is not required then save your money and go ahead and just get a standard unit if that is all that you need.
