Depending on the facility, you will find that they have many different types of security. Depending on what they have, you might have to choose whether or not that is the facility for you. Some companies go over the top when it comes to security but that means they care about what you are storing. Finding a company that does not have any measure of security except for the lock that goes on it is still common. You have to determine if security is important to you.
Door alarms are one of the best types of security a storage facility can offer.  In most cases, only high end storage facilities have them.  The door alarm activates if the door is messed with.  The alarm notifies the manger so he can contact the authorities.  While locks are a good way to secure your storage units, they can be cut.  However, with a door alarm, the property manager is immediately contacted, and the situation can be resolved instantly.  That way, you don’t end up coming to your unit, only to find it completely empty!
Door alarms are very similar to those select few who have security systems on their homes. When they leave, they set the alarm and whoever tries to enter their home an alarm will sound. It is the same way at the self storage facility. As soon as you shut the door and put your lock on it, that is step one. The last step to activate the alarm will be to put your pin code in the gate as you. You are then all set. Your door alarm is activated. Your belongings are safe.

  • Keep Your Self Storage Unit Safely Secured

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/selfblog/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787

The Westmount Centre storage industry in Ontario, Canada has been there for quite a long time.  Storage is big business these days and it requires many employees to build and run all the various storage facilities.  It can be a simple operation if all the laws and rules are abided by.  There are strict rules governing the way we store things and how an owner or company must abide by the laws.  When customers do not pay their bills on their storage spaces, they can loose their things in a public auction.  A company or an owner can not keep these things forever, of course, and some money should be collected on past dues.  Most of the time, a company loses money on people who do not pay their storage space bill.

To keep other people’s stuff forever would sink all the companies in the storage industry including Westmount Centre storage places in Ontario, Canada.  Laws were imposed by the governments of the specific countries to deal with this problem.  In the United States of America, states can also make laws in this matter.  In Texas, for example, no personal items can be sold to the public.  These include things like checkbooks, photos and jewelry at times.  In other states, anything in the specific storage space or units as they are called in the business can be sold.  In Texas, you have to save things that take up room in your storage place.  Most managers of self-storage places have storage spaces kept out of the rent spaces to hold things like this.  People leave things on the property when they are moving for lots of different reasons.  Have to put them somewhere you know.  Therefore, the manager must waste a little space to do this.  If there were junk all over the property how many people would want to rent from that place?  Not many.  Some take one look and say good-bye, no thanks.  A dirty unkempt property is asking for trouble.  More break-ins happen to dirty properties than clean ones in the storage industry.  A break in is when criminals cut locks on unsuspecting customers’ storage spaces and steal things.  It happens after closing hours more often than not.  They can hop a fence, steal a code, or hide out on the property until closing time.  It is not pretty.  Sometimes friends rob friends.  All managers hate this part of the business.

Westmount Centre storage managers probably hate this too.  It is heartbreaking some times to have to make that phone call to some one that his or her belongings have been stolen by somebody.  Good mangers can slow down these break ins or eliminate them by sound and wise practices.  They can be seen all the time by would be criminals.  They walk around checking locks on the storage spaces.  Good managers want every locker to have a lock on it.  Some customers do not want to do it.  No way.  Let them break in, I do not care.  Yes, this happens.  Not very often, but it happens.  People are angry or do not want to spend a nickel more on anything, especially on storage.  It sounds silly we know.

  • Feeling Secure with Country Hills Storage
    By jeff on December 16, 2010 | 174 Comments174 Comments Comments

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/selfblog/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787

No one wants to feel unsafe. The feeling of being unsafe can radiate through your whole body and be in your mind. The feeling of unsafe thoughts will prevent you from walking down a dark alley and it will prevent you from putting your belongings into a Country Hills Storage facility that is not safe. What you want to do is you want to check out the facility in which you think you want to store and see how you feel.  If you do not feel that your belongings will be safe there then you should not store there. If you do not feel safe there yourself, then you should not store there. It is that simple. What people need to look at are the different ways a Country Hills storage facility can keep you safe.

One big thing that Country Hills storage facilities like to do is put a gate up around their facility. They feel that this is a good way for people to stay out that does not belong. There are a couple types of gates that you will encounter when looking around for a storage facility. Storage facilities will have gates that they just leave open and anyone is able to come and go as they please. The storage managers keep the facility open when they can. They usually have a set time in which they close and open the gates but they usually check to make sure no one is inside the facility before they close the gates. Other gates are access control gates that ensure that only those who have pin codes to the facility are allowed in the gates. So with that they are not able to come and go as they please if they do not already rent there. So if you are not out of the facility by the time the facility shuts down, you could be stuck behind the gate. Make sure you know your access hours and plan accordingly.

Another great form of security Country Hills Storage facilities have in Alberta is that they have surveillance cameras that keep an extra eye on things when the managers are not present. Depending on the facility, the cameras might be going twenty four hours or they might just be on while the property is open. They try to have enough cameras to where they cover the whole facility and not miss a thing.

In tag team with the surveillance cameras and the gated facility, some Country Hills storage facilities have door alarms on every unit. That means that if the alarm is not deactivate and someone tries to get into your unit, an alarm will sound alerting the manager. This should make you feel safe that even if someone got into the facility they could not get into your storage unit. Door alarms could be key in your decision making.

Whatever makes you safe when finding somewhere to store then you should stick to those features. If a facility that you are looking at does not have those features then you should not store there. Try not to settle for a facility that does not have the safety features that you believe will keep your belongings safe. The reality of it is that you are deciding to keep these things in self storage facility, they have special meaning to you. Make sure they are safe.

  • Helping Home Repairs with Self Storage

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/selfblog/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787

Buying your own home is the definition of a “grown-up purchase.”  It’s the largest investment most people will make over the course of their lifetime.  Protecting and enhancing that investment with maintenance, repairs, renovations and remodels is an absolute must for all homeowners.  If you’re the do-it-yourself kind of person, you can make that work easier with Fairhaven storage.

There are a couple of things you can count on when renovating or remodeling your home.  When you’re finished it will hopefully look a lot better than it did before, and until you’re finished…you’re going to have a real mess on your hands.  The plain fact is construction isn’t pretty.  There’s nothing you can do to fix that entirely, but you can endear yourself to the neighborhood by keeping surplus materials in Fairhaven storage until you’re ready to use them.   You’ll also enjoy the benefit of keeping your workspace more organized, and therefore (hopefully) safer and more productive.

Using Ontario storage won’t just provide a higher level of aesthetics to your driveway, yard or garage.  Once you’re purchased your lumber, drywall, nails, screws, paint, wallpaper, brick and siding you’ve shelled out quite a bit of money.  The worst thing that could happen is that someone steals those materials from your yard or that they get caught in a sudden downpour of rain.  And if you think the building materials were expensive, wait until you rent or purchase all the hand and power tools you’ll need.  With perimeter fencing accessible only via gates with required keypad access and 24-hour video surveillance, Fairhaven storage will keep your building materials and tools safe and secure.

Fairhaven storage is available in a wide range of sizes.  Combine that with month to month leasing and you’ll ensure you only pay for the amount of storage you need for the time period you need it, but that’s only the tip of iceberg when it comes to the cost efficiency you might enjoy.  If you plan your renovations in advance, you can take advantage of discounts, clearance and overall lower winter prices on your building materials, place them in Fairhaven storage and then have everything ready to go when spring/summer arrives.

Remodeling or renovating your home should be all about the joy you’ll have when the project is finished, not the pressures or difficulties of the process itself.  Fairhaven storage is one way you can help keep your feeling toward finishing your home project one of excitement rather than one of relief.

  • Keep Memories Safe At Quebec Storage

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/selfblog/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787

Jenny was spending the day cleaning out her Quebec storage unit. It had been about six months since she had really been in there and she could not really remember what she had in there anymore. She had been renting with this Quebec storage unit for about two years since she had first moved here. Most of her boxes and furniture inside the storage unit had been moved in here in the initial move and she had not really gone through everything since then.

She knew going in that there was probably things that she had packed away inside of the Quebec storage unit that she wanted to take back to her house, and something that she would want to keep in storage and probably some trash. She had a box for things to take back and a box for trash.

There were so many memories that she found in the Quebec storage unit that she had forgotten. Jenny found things that she had from her childhood, and things that she had made when she was younger. She also found a box of pictures that she had been looking for. Pictures of when she was growing up, and even a few pictures of when her mom and dad were younger.  She was not sure how they had ended up in storage but she was glad that she had them back. Jenny found things that had belonged to her grandmother that she had forgotten that she had even had. There were even some things in there that her son had made when he was little that she was certain he had forgotten about. She put all those things in the pile to take back to her house.

Of course there was some trash and things that she no longer wanted to keep. There was a box of stuff that she was not even sure was hers because she was not to sure where the stuff had come from. At the end of the day she had a few lost treasures to go back to her house and a box full of trash that she no longer wanted to keep. She felt better having cleaned out her space and now knowing again what she had all stored in there. Jenny was determined to not let it get so long between visits to her storage unit, and that she was going to keep it organized.

  • Finding A Safe Self Storage Unit
By admin on April 16, 2010 | Comments Off Comments

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/selfblog/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787

Sure, you may not want to put too much work into renting your self storage unit.  Sure, you may think that just about every self storage unit is the same.  And sure, you might think that your belongings are not going to require any special care, because they are, after all, just junk.  Well, reader, know that you are dead wrong if this is what you are thinking.  Of course, it is going to take quite a bit of tender love and care, not to mention research, to make sure that you are actually keeping your belongings as safe as they can be.  Granted that you are willing to do your research, though, you are not going to find that you run into very many problems in this department.

The first thing that you are going to want to look for, here, are video surveillance cameras.  Surely, you are going to want to avoid each and every facility that cannot offer you the latest in video surveillance technology.  Sure, you may not think that a few simple cameras are going to be able to help you very much.  Here, though, you would be wrong.  Indeed, a few cameras are going to be able to go quite a long way at the end of the day.  When a potential criminal sees that he is being filmed, he is going to become much less inclined to commit crimes.  Indeed, he knows that he is going to go straight to jail once the police figure out who he is.  Sure, he may be able to make it into your unit, but at what cost?

Moving on, here, you are always going to want to be sure that your self storage unit comes equipped with a door alarm, as well.  The door alarm is a powerful little tool, one that can virtually guarantee that someone is not going to be able to get away with tampering with your lock or with your door.  It functions just like a car alarm, emitting a terrifying noise when it sustains a certain amount of force.  By equipping your door with one of these alarms, you can rest assured that it is virtually impossible for someone to break into your self storage unit.

Of course, you are also going to want to be sure that you have all of the basics covered, as well.  This, of course, means that you are going to want to be sure that you have  a great lock on your door.  Do not settle, here, for a simple pad lock.  Rather, be sure that you have equipped your door with a disc lock or a cylinder lock.  These locks, reader, are going to be much harder for a crook to break, as they are made specifically to curb theft.  Of course, you are also going to want to be sure that you are renting a unit from a facility that has a very tall fence around its perimeter, and plenty of flood lights on the property at night.  These simple things are going to guarantee that your unit is safe.  Likewise, they are going to guarantee that you are always going to feel safe when you come to visit your belongings at night.

If you do not feel safe, reader, then you are not going to be able to rest easily.  It is a simple fact of life, really.  Thus, when you are shopping around for the perfect self storage unit, you are going to want to be sure that you are not forgetting to check into its security features.  These, you will quickly find, actually matter the most.

    Motion Sensors

There are different kinds of motions sensors used in storehouses. They record the events whenever some motion is noticed. Installing such sensors near the periphery of the storehouse and close to the units would help in providing good security to the belongings of the customers.

    CCTV Cameras

These cameras are used to keep an eye on what is happening inside the storehouse. You should make a provision of putting display screen at several locations. This will not only prevent thefts but will also help build up customer confidence.

Several other types of security systems like biometric entry system are being used by various businesses offering secure self storage . You should choose the security systems depending upon the level of security you want.

Last but not least, the storage units should be constructed in such a manner that the temperature and humidity levels inside them remain at comfortable levels to prevent the breeding of pests and insects. The design of the building should also discourage pests and insects from entering and breeding inside the facility. There should be no openings in ceilings and doors to allow entry to pests. Moreover, the drainage pipes should have proper angle so that no garbage can deposit inside them. The areas in and around secure self storage should be kept clean and dry.

There should be proper provision for the installation of the security systems within the storehouse. There are different kinds of electronic systems that are used in the warehouses. Some of them are

    Card Entry

In card entry system, a person can enter the storehouse only when he or she swipes a valid card. This system ensures that only authorized persons like customers and staff enter the facility.

    Theft Alarm

Nowadays, security software is used for enhancing the security of the storehouse. Theft alarms are automated, and whenever an unauthorized person tries to open the store unit, an alarm is heard in the control room of the secure self storage . To identify whether an authorized or an unauthorized person is trying to open the store unit, the entry to the unit is controlled by the swipe card entry in the storehouse. As soon as the customer of the warehouse swipes the card at the entrance gate, the theft alarm of his or her store unit turns off.

While leasing a store unit, people are concerned about the security and safety of their goods, and therefore, prefer to rent secure self storage . Gone are the days when people were satisfied with a simple key and lock on their store units. Nowadays, customers want much more. They want to be assured of the security of their goods from thieves, pests, and natural calamities. Thus, more and more emerging storehouses are constructed keeping these things in mind. Even the storehouses are marketing their units based on their advanced security systems.

The most important thing for constructing a safe warehouse is to get a proper blueprint of its layout. While designing the layout, an architect should keep in mind the safety and security of the storehouse. The layout and construction of the secure self storage should be in such a manner that it can withstand natural and man-made calamities like tornadoes, floods, fires, and earthquakes. Construction materials like reinforced concrete are strong and can withstand disasters. Moreover, nowadays there are several new construction technologies available to make the building resistant to these disasters like base-isolation technique, where the building is not affected by earthquakes, and so on. The newly constructed cargo space units should employ these latest technologies.

  • Students Rent Secure Self Storage
    By admin on June 26, 2009 | 433 Comments433 Comments Comments

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/selfblog/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787

Students desire a secure self storage where they can store their precious items without the fear of theft or damage. Students, nowadays, possess precious stuff like laptops, TV, and other gadgets and gizmos. It is not possible to keep these items just anywhere. One needs a safe and secure place for them. A storing unit provides them the facility of having their own padlock, which means that only they can have access to the unit, no one else. This gives immense relief to busy students who cannot always spare time to check their things.

No matter how thrifty students try to become, they usually end up accumulating more stuff than they need and they find it difficult to accommodate all their items in a small hostel room. A secure self storage comes to the rescue of such students. The wonderful thing about these units is that students can access them anytime they like and any number of times. There is no extra cost associated with accessing storing facilities. Thus, it is like having two rooms – one where you live and one where you store your items

Besides, there are a large number of students who come from abroad. They bring their own stuff with them. Seasonal items like warm clothes, blankets, and other such stuff for the winter can be stored in a storing facility when not in use. Moreover, many students have hobbies. Some may love to paint some may be into adventure sports, while some may indulge in music or collecting items. Now, such students need space to keep their collections, sports equipment, paintings, or music instruments. What better place than a secure self storage .

In today times, you can hardly find students who are content with meager belongings in their rooms. Just a stack of books, stationery, and a few clothes can easily fit in a locker. But, such simplicity is rare. Students want to be in. For that, they need to keep up with the current fashion, thus, piling up clothes for each season and occasion. Then there is the latest music system, cell phones, computers, and other gadgets that keep on changing. Students usually wonder where they should keep their old stuff after buying new ones. Again, secure self storage is the answer.

Moreover, students may want to return home during vacation. At this time, they need to keep their stuff at a place that provides quality monitoring and guarantee, along with protection from theft. A storing facility generally has a monthly payment policy. As long as students pay the rent on time, they need not worry about their goods. These units have 24 x 7 vigilance as well as advanced security alarm systems.

When it comes to renting a storing unit, students have an advantage. Most of the under-graduation and post-graduation courses are of 2-3 years duration and long term renting usually comes at discounted prices. So, students can rent a unit for as long as their course runs and obtain attractive price cuts from the owners

It comes as no surprise that an increasing number of students today prefer storing facilities to keep their valuable stuff. A secure self storage typically features a unit lock, keypad entry system, strong fencing, good lighting, video surveillance, and a manager on-site, round the clock. This means that the unit will never be without protection. A site with all these facilities is completely secure and offers maximum quality checking.
