Jake and his family owned a small lake house about four hours away from there house. They usually spent two or three weeks there during the summer and if they could get there they tried to do a week or two in the winter. Jakes parents had bought it when he was in high school, and Jake use to go there all the time in college when he wanted some peace and quiet or wanted some alone time. It was also a great place to go for breaks from school since he was in college and did not have a lot of money to spend on traveling. He had many fond memories at the lake house.

Since they spent little time there currently with Jake and his wife both working full time and the kids being involved in sports and other activities they usually kept boxes of stuff packed to go to the lake house for when they decided to go. They had boxes of blankets, and towels, and emergency kits, and a hundred other items that they needed while they were at the lake house. Unfortunately these boxes took up space in the garage and soon with the addition of other boxes that were moved in there for storage it became difficult to get the car to fit into the garage any longer.

They had to find a solution for their storage problem. Jake was tired or barely being able to squeeze the car in and it was going to be a huge hassle to get to the boxes if they did decide to go to the lake house. That night after the kids had gone to bed finally Jake began to search the internet looking for a Lynhurst, Ontario self storage solution.

He decided that if there was no storage space in his house anymore that he needed to find an outside storage solution. His search led him to several different Lynhurst storage options and since he had never looked into self storage before he was unsure of how to make the right choice.

He decided that he would start narrowing down the list by Lynhurst self storage location. He did not want a storage unit that was a hassle to get to anytime he needed something or something that was so far out it would be difficult to find time in their busy day to get to.

Next he moved on to security and safety measures for each of the locations. True there were no hidden gems or priceless treasures in the boxes that he needed to store, but he wanted to make sure that the boxes that he moved into the Lynhurst self storage unit they choose would be there when they returned to get them.

Those filters helped him to narrow down his list and he began to compare the prices of the units as well as any contracts that had to be signed. He did not want to commit to a self storage unit for the duration of his life or anything like that, but just for as long as he needed it.

In the end of the process Jake was able to find the Lynhurst storage location that fit all of his qualifications. He decided that tomorrow he was going to go after work and become a first time renter of a self storage unit.

  • Clutter Free Is the Way to Be
By jeff on March 8, 2011 | No Comments Comments

Are you a pack rat? Is it beginning to effect your family negatively? When there is less and less space for your children to play and you begin to have trouble finding what you need in your home consider that having a Keelesdale, Ontario self storage unit can help you take control of your clutter and get your home organized once again. Here are a few examples of how a self storage solution can help you.

When you look around at your cluttered home you may think that it is impossible to get it organized but do not be discouraged it can be done. Instead of looking at the whole house just try to organize one room at a time. Take it a little bit at a time and it may seem like less of a huge hurtle to overcome.

To help you get started find the right Keelesdale self storage unit for you. Finding the right location, price, and amenities may be different for each person and you can decide which location is right for you. Once you have the location you should get plenty of packing supplies like boxes, packing tape, a permanent marker, and bubble wrap.

Pick a room that you want to start with and decide if each item is to be kept, is going to go to your Keelesdale storage unit, just needs to go to the garbage, or if it is something that you want to get rid of and can donate to a local thrift store. All of the items that stay should only be the items that are necessary for the room and a select few decorative items. All of the extras and the clutter should find a home somewhere else.

Continue this process going through each room of the house. You may think that you don’t need to do say the kitchen or the bathrooms as much as the living rooms and bedrooms but there is probably a few items in those rooms that you can get rid of and at the very least you can just give the spaces a through cleaning.

When you start the process you may find it difficult to let go of some things. Just keep in mind that you are making a better life for you and your family and that may help you to keep with it. When everything is clean and organized you will be amazed at the results. It may even feel like a whole new house, and your children will love all the space that they have to run and play once again.

While you are moving your boxes over to the Keelesdale self storage unit remember that you want to make your storage unit organizes as well. Stack the boxes in neatly, and make sure that the breakable boxes are clearly labeled so that they do not get stuck on the bottom of the piles. Make the storage unit organized so that you can find things if you have a need for them.

Now that your home is clean and your Keelesdale storage unit is organized have your family help you in keeping it maintained. Make it a family project to keep the house clean and organized now that you are clutter free. If you keep it maintained you won’t ever have to live under clutter again.

  • Self Storage, Alberta Style

Alberta, Canada is quite a beautiful destination for those considering a Canadian vacation or perhaps relocation. Situated between Saskatchewan and British Columbia, Alberta is home to nearly four million people, but it is far from crowded. People in Alberta enjoy peace and tranquility as they are surrounded by gorgeous lakes, majestic mountains and spectacular views.

Although its capital is Edmonton, the largest city in Alberta is Calgary which is home to major industry, not to mention about a million people. The province itself is named for Queen Victoria’s fourth daughter, Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, who was married to John Campbell, who served as the Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883. (Canada’s Lake Louise and the town of Caroline are also named in her honor.) Alberta is the gateway to the Canadian Rockies, and as such attracts outdoor enthusiasts for unparalleled wintertime skiing, snowboarding, ice fishing and snowmobiling. During the milder seasons, Alberta boasts scenic rail tours, events and festivals throughout the province. But one of Alberta’s greatest attractions is its view of the aurora borealis, better known as the “northern lights.” Alberta’s most northern town, Fort McMurray, is situated directly in the aurora’s “optimal activity oval” meaning any visitor or resident of this great province has a front row seat for one of nature’s most amazing light displays. The University of Alberta’s Aurora watch predicts when the light displays are most active in the Edmonton region, so check their website for a good time to see this amazing natural phenomenon. Once you have seen such amazing wonders, you won’t want to go home. You’ll want to stay in Alberta and be a part of such a breathtakingly beautiful place. Well the good news is we’ve got you covered.

Silver Creek, Alberta is home to Silver Creek Self Storage and the friendly folks there are natural wonders in and of themselves. Each Silver Creek Self Storage employee is ready to answer your questions and meet your needs as you make the decision to relocate to Alberta. They will take the guesswork out of a move to Alberta, which will leave the mover with a happy smile as he or she decides what adventure to go on first in this province of natural beauty. Best of all, Silver Creek Self Storage will keep your items safe and secure so you really have to only think about what remarkable Albertan feature you’ll enjoy next. Will it be Alberta’s theme parks? What about rodeos, jazz festivals, or aboriginal peoples’ festivals? Maybe water sports are more to your taste? Or perhaps you’d like to relax at a spa and complete the day with fine dining and shopping? What about camping and hiking in one of the most amazing places in the world? Or perhaps art festivals and dinner theater are more to your liking? Anything from a tour of the remote badlands to site seeing in downtown Calgary, Alberta brings everything from the great outdoors to thriving metro areas to the table.  You just have to decide how hungry you are.

  • Self Storage Shouldn’t Be Considered a Luxury
By jeff on February 14, 2011 | No Comments Comments

What do self storage, a cell phone, a microwave and corn nuts have in common?  Three of them are things that we find to be essential for living our day to day lives but were at one time misunderstood and thought to be a luxury expense.   Yes, everyone knows that corn nuts are more than a necessity.  They are a staple to making through the harsh London Road, Alberta, Canada winters.   So that must mean that Cell Phones, Microwaves and London Rd Self Storage are more than luxuries.  They are things designed to make life easier.  If you have five minutes to eat, are you going to heat your leftovers up in the oven or the microwave?  Not really a question is it. Likewise, if you are stranded with no fuel in the middle of winter, how important does that cell phone seem now?  And self storage… wait, self storage?  Why in the world would anyone find self storage a necessity?

It is the middle of winter it often snows, and there is ice melt all over the roads.  You are one of the lucky ones.  You managed last fall to carve out a spot in the garage for your stuff and your car.  You pull in, close the garage door and walk in to a cozy winter’s night around the fire while reading the newest Tom Clancy novel.  Life is good.  You have been so lucky.  You will be moving in a few weeks to your new home and can’t wait.  You have been planning this for a while.  One side of the garage is lined with boxes of clothes, mementos from college, the mattress from the spare bedroom.  You are a planner.

The next day you are off for some last minute errands before the big move.  You open the garage door to see that all of the ice from your car has melted, and every box on the bottom layer of the stack is now covered in a black slime. As you realize cardboard isn’t waterproof, you turn and see your mattress… well your mattress looks more like something found in a dumpster than it does the expensive “Sleep Number” bed you bought at the mall.

This may sound funny, but it is real life for so many.  We think that storing our most valued possessions in a cellar, garage or attic makes sense.  It never occurs to us that Mother Nature can and will play guerilla warfare with our valuables.  That’s why self storage is such a necessity.  London Road Self Storage managers are the best in the business.   London Road Self Storage managers have your best interest at heart and yes, being a London Rd Self Storage employee is more than an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. gig.  It is a life choice; spent making sure customers are a satisfied part of their self storage family.  They will explain your options and make sure you’ve made an informed decision about where and how you will store your possessions.

In short, yes, at one time a Cell Phone, a Microwave and a Self Storage seemed like luxuries.  But time and experience has shown us that these three things will help make our lives easier and keep our memories precious.  And corn nuts are real good too.

  • Issues Facing Storage Companies

Normandy Heights storage facilities in Saskatchewan, Canada face the same problems other storage places face, throughout the world.  One of the problems they face that is similar to other storage places is where to get rid of stuff left by customers.  Many customers will move out of their storage spaces after the storage office closes, and the managers go home.  Some do not do this on purpose, but have to do it because that is when they get their truck, or they are waiting for movers, or that is when their friends decide to show up.  Also on days off for the managers, people move out too and the assistant manager, who might be alone, can not see everything going on.  Many times at storage places, one manager will be on duty.  The managers will put their assistant manager on the slowest days of the week to help out.  Many managers are married couples who run and live on site of the property.  They might live in an attached apartment, or maybe a small house in the back of the property.  This has been going on a long time in the storage business, but changes are happening to.

When customers leave stuff on the property, and no one sees it happen, the facility managers must find some place to put everything, or get rid of it in some manner.  Normandy Heights storage facilities in Saskatchewan, Canada have similar problems.  They might have a dumpster on property they can use for some of this stuff.  A lot of storage places have to use empty storage spaces to store big things left on the property.  When we were managers a while back, we had two or three storage spaces filled with stuff left by customers.  There was a lot of furniture, boxes and broken things like baby cribs and toys.  Some of these things broke in the storage space, and are not needed anymore, or they just did not fit in the truck the people rented to move their things out.

One time a man rushed up to us at the office with a telescope in his hand.  He pleaded to us to take the telescope off his hands because he had to leave right this second.  He had to leave that very second and he was not kidding.  The truck was pulling off our storage property and going on in to the street when we looked.  We took the object and he was so happy, he shook our hands and ran and jumped into the truck.  The truck barely stopped for the poor guy and it drove down the street as we waved good-bye.  We do not know if we really needed a telescope, after all, we do not see stars often where we lived sorry to say.  Pollution from too many cars in many United State of America storage places.  We would think that Normandy Heights storage facility managers in Saskatchewan, Canada do not have that same problem.  We think their air might be cleaner than ours.  Maybe one day we will move to a place where we can see the stars and use our telescope.  We can name a lot of places like that, we think.  How about Canada or Finland?  It snows a lot in those places doesn’t it?

  • Family Memories are Kept Safe with Self Storage

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/selfblog/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787

Laval storage places in Quebec, Canada were on our mind the other day when we were researching the storage industry.  We write blogs once in awhile and while we were writing some on self-storage places in Quebec, a hockey game was on TV and my young seven year old son who we adopted from Vietnam, was watching it.  We adopted him only two years ago and he is learning English very fast.  We live in central Missouri, so the St. Louis Blues hockey team comes on TV a couple of times a week.  It is great to watch him watch the hockey games on TV.  My Dad and his son did the same thing when this son was very young.  We joked to him about Laval storage places in Quebec, Canada probably have a million hockey sticks in their buildings.  He knows a million is a lot, but does not know how much.  He will ask questions about the game which we try to answer in simple terms.  He understands the penalties like high sticking, and tripping, and throwing elbows.  Off sides is too hard to explain, but we did talk about icing the puck yesterday.  He knows hockey players are tuff guys who skate very well.  We went roller-skating a few times so he can relate a little on how to ice skate.  We will ice skate one day, but we are so rusty at it we know we will fall and he will laugh.  We do not want to fall, we do not like falling.  We watched some of the hockey game he was watching as we blogged away for our job.

Laval storage places in Quebec, Canada was of course, the subject we were trying to write on, but when he said the blue team would catch up with the white team, we stopped blogging, and sat by him to watch.  Sure enough, the St. Lois Blues scored three times in the third period to tie the game at three but lost in overtime.  He was here for us when our beloved Black Hawks won the Stanley cup since the early nineteen sixties.  We picked him up and we danced in front of the TV when Patrick Kane scored the winning goal in overtime.  We will never forget that day and it was a whole lot of fun.  We did not want to see a seventh game in the playoffs.  Win it now, seventh games, well, we all know the saying, anything can happen.  He knows what a goalie does and knows what a fight is of course.  He stands up during the fights.  He knows a player can not hold too.  That is a penalty.

Laval storage will have to wait just a little bit longer while we discuss hockey.  Nobody in Quebec will care though.  They have a passion for hockey we know.  My adopted son will know hockey pretty good soon we really believe.  He loves the Hulk and superman right now.  We believe the Hulk would be a great hockey player if he wanted to.  Why not?  How about Superman too?  He can skate we believe, but we do not know if the Hulk can ice skate.  He is a little big for hockey though, maybe football is better suited for him.  We believe the Flash would be a great hockey player.  Don’t you?

  • Setting Up Markham Self Storage
By admin on August 6, 2010 | No Comments Comments

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/selfblog/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787

There are many things to know in the Markham self storage industry that will only help you in the search for storage in the area. Knowledge is power and knowledge can save you a lot of money and time, as well. Administration fees are very important and kind of unknown to most who have never stored before. They will add as much as thirty dollars to the first month. Most of the admin fees that you will find in the area will be around twenty dollars. There will be a few that are only ten dollars or do not charge one at all. This is pretty rare and you should not base your storage decision upon the admin fee.

Along with the admin fee, you should also keep an eye out for any deposits that the site may have in place on the initial set up. Some sites have deposits that are only ten or twenty dollars. These kinds of deposits would be referred to as a cleaning deposit. They put that on there to give extra incentive to get everything out of the space when a tenant moves out. They do not want to have to deal with items that are left behind because then they need to figure out how to dispose of those items. There are also some Markham self storage properties that will charge a deposit that is equal to a full month of rent. It is great to be aware of deposits of this magnitude because even though you should get that back in full when you move out, it will still add a lot to your initial setup. This could interfere with your storage priorities.

Another thing to watch out for when you are looking around for Markham self storage is contracts. The last thing that you want to do is sign up for a long term contract just to get a special. You may end up spending more money than you were planning on just to get a cheaper move in. The fact is that it is just not worth it since you can almost always find a deal that is just as good if you look around enough without signing up for a long term contract. You should be able to find a good deal in Markham self storage with a month to month lease. That would be the ideal situation.

Insurance or some type of protection plan is a main priority for a lot of people that are shopping around for Markham self storage spaces. This will ensure that your belongings are covered in the event that anything should happen to them while they are in storage. It is definitely worth seeing if your homeowners or renters policy covers this because then you do not have to worry about picking up extra protection from the site. Insurance plans usually cost around ten dollars or so a month and give you peace of mind that your goods are covered. The chances of something happening are very rare, but it would be better to have a coverage plan that you do not need than the other way around. In the event that something should happen, then you would be compensated for the damage. Just ask the manager about plans when you come in to see the space.

  • Setup of Burlington Self Storage
By admin on July 12, 2010 | No Comments Comments

Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/selfblog/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787

Getting to know Burlington self storage is a process so make sure that you are not in a hurry. There are many things to consider when you are shopping around and it is easy to get lost and focus on the wrong things. You will want to decide what your priorities are. A lot of people are considered with price alone, but there are some other things that you will want to keep an eye out for. The safety and security are going to be very important, obviously. The location is also equally important. The one thing that people overlook is some of the extra cost that may be associated with getting set up. If you are looking to compare different facilities prices, then it is vital that all the costs are taken into consideration when comparing.

Not all Burlington self storage facilities are the same even they may look like that in the phonebook or when you are driving by. The differences may come in monthly prices, quality of the site, or even the initial setup costs. The first cost that you will want to consider is the administration fee. Most places have this so it may not be something that you want to spend a lot of time on, but it is good to have knowledge of what is out there. Admin fees can range from five dollars all the way up to around thirty dollars so it can make a little bit of a difference. If you are looking at a unit that is two hundred dollars, twenty or thirty dollars may not be that big of a deal. However, if you are getting a smaller space for boxes and such, then twenty dollars might be close to your monthly rental so you may want to spend a little extra time when comparing Burlington self storage spaces. The admin fee helps to get you set up in the system and get your gate code working. You will get your own individual gate code when you sign up for the space.

The next thing to watch out for when you are comparing different Burlington self storage properties is a deposit. Most apartments that you rent require a deposit so this would lead some people to think that it would be required at most places when you are looking to store. This is actually not the case. Out of twenty storage facilities there will probably not be more than a handful that will require a deposit. A deposit may only be around ten or twenty bucks. In that case, it may be referred to as a cleaning deposit. The property just wants to give a little extra motivation to not leave stuff behind and also to at least sweep out the storage space when they leave. Some deposits are equal to a months rent and these will really add to your setup cost even though you should get it back when you move out.

There are a couple of other costs that may happen when you move in to your Burlington self storage space. There is going to be a need for a lock which only costs about ten dollars. However, there are a few sites that you should be able to get a free lock from and every little bit counts.

    Easy Access To Information

Whether you want to know the status about the occupancy of the units or you want to get details about the customers, you can easily get it, as all information is stored in a database. The system will automatically update the information periodically, for instance, as soon as the customer pays the monthly rent, it will be updated in the records. This results in less efforts and better efficiency.

    Accounting And Financial Planning

Warehouse software has several accounting and financial tools that will help your staff in maintaining accounts and also in decision-making. These software help in calculating the expenses of the storehouse, rentals collected, occupancy rates, returns through the storehouse, and so on.

    Integrating Security

More and more neighborhood self storage facilities are integrating their security with warehouse software. The coded access gates and door alarms are linked to the software to identify the customers in order to allow access to their units.

If you have several warehouses, then you can centralize your data using warehouse software. This will also lead to uniformity in processes in all the storehouses.

    Online Reservation

The community self storage software allows the customers to book the units online. If the unit that a customer wants is not available at the moment, he can check the earliest date at which he can get that unit. Since the information is available to the customers at the click of the mouse, they feel good and might also book the units of your self storage in advance.

    Online Payment

Online payment system would ensure better collection of monthly rents. People are so busy that they sometimes fail to deposit the checks on time, and therefore, online payment system would help them in paying rentals easily, quickly, and unfailingly. The warehouse software would help you in setting up an online payment system.

    Notices And Reminders

Nowadays, it is necessary to have most systems automated in self storage, even the procedure of sending reminders and notices to the customers. With warehouse software, you will be able to send reminders to the customers about the payment of rents and about the expiry of the lease. The software will enable the store managers to send notices to the customers who fail to pay rents for few months in a row. This will not only ensure fewer defaults, but also free your staff of these petty tasks.
