When moving, make sure you have enough people to help the more people the quicker you get it done and less stress. If you know when you are going to move let your friends and family know in advance. Of course having your loved ones and friends help you could make the moving experience a fun experience instead of a stressful one. If you want to get your move done, of course you can hire a professional moving team to take your belongings to your self storage facility. That will cost you money where your friends could either do it for free or for a couple of drinks or food.If you can not find people to help you move you might want to call you local storage facility and get some references. You might be able to luck out and find someone in the area that will not charge you that much. Also one thing that could help you that your local self storage facility can help you with is offering a free move service. Depending on the facility you will get a different free move service. Some facilities will offer a mover and a truck while others will just offer a moving truck. Make sure that you ask your facility manager if they have a free moving truck option.Your local storage facility has lots of packing and storage supplies at a reasonable price. So if you need some boxes or other storage supplies you could use for your move. When it comes to your belongings, make sure that you pack them up correctly and do not try to save costs by using items that could be potentially harmful to your items. Do not believe everything that you see on television. Of course those people who claim they are doing reality television cannot be further from the truth. What seems to be reality to some is not quite reality to others. For the simple fact some of the things that happen on television are not things that would happen in real life. Naturally in order to get ratings, you will see that some storage is embellished just a bit to gain the attention of their viewers. Self storage seems to not have been able to duck the limelight.Storage auctions seem to be on the rise with all of the publicity and realty television shows. Usually the ones purchasing the units are businesses that have a store front that they can sell their items out of. You do not see the individuals who buy the units or how they deal with their newly accumulated items. Many individuals sell items online in an attempt to make money. If you are like the average person you probably do not have room in your home or garage to store your inventory. A caller I spoke with Saturday rents a self storage unit close to their house so they can keep everything organized. As an item sells on line, they visit their unit; pull the item and then send it to the buyer. Many people run their business out of their self storage units. They find that it is a cheap way in order to have a store front without the store front. Typically this kind of business is being run by their selves or with the help of one other employee. This way they can keep their bottom line profit intact. The business owners want to manage their business efficiently to where they are not spending unnecessarily. The better they can advertise, sell and distribute the more efficiently their business will run out of their storage unit. If they grow big enough, people might then consider the idea of having an actual store front so people can browse their inventory in person.Do not believe everything that you see on television. Finding The Best Self StorageBy joel on August 21, 2011 | 1,128 Comments

While on the phone the other day, I helped give a young woman some advice on looking for the best storage facility. She claimed that she had been looking for quite some time but she would always get confused because everyone had something different to offer or someone had the same features to offer her. I advised her on the following things to look for when looking for a top notch facility.Make sure the facility has the space or unit you are looking for. If you are looking for a parking space, then you should not attempt to go with a facility who does not offer a parking space for your needs. If you are looking for a space for your two bedroom apartment, ensure they are going to have a space that can fit everything inside without being too big. You do not want to pay for more space than you need. When looking for the right facility for you, make sure they have the space you are looking for because otherwise renting there is pointless.Do not always shop for the lowest price because you will be disappointed. Most of the time a facility that has the lowest price tends to be lacking in other areas. If they are able to give you pricing that is far below the pricing of everyone else that you are looking at then they are not as nice of a property. Typically what you will find from a very low cost facility is that they are lacking in security, convenient features and also sometimes customer service. When you are storing your belongings, you want to ensure those belongings are safe. The more things in between the general public and your belongings, the better. Look for a gated community, door alarms, surveillance cameras and sometimes even inside storage. The more questions you ask about the facility, the better. Is the facility close to you? You do not want to go too far to get to your belongings. If you are the kind of person that will need to visit their facility a couple of times a week or in a two week period, then you most likely want a space that is close to you. There are some local self storage facilities in your area that are close to your home or your work. Seek them out and you can save some time, money and also gas.Is the facility honest, and seem to be who they say they are? No one likes to be lied to. If you feel that the place you are attempting to store is being dishonest, then you should not store there. The manager at the store should be very truthful to you and help you out to their best ability. If they quote you a price over the phone then give a different price when you come in, you should turn around and leave. Do not rent from a dishonest facility. Finally, I told her to make sure to always remember that during the summer months, storage is in its highest demand. If a facility has a lot of available units, or a very cheap rate, it is usually because they are left trying to fill their facilities. When storage facilities have many vacancies they become desperate to rent them. New HomeBy joel on August 8, 2011 | 13 Comments

Moving day generally is a very taxing day and may people struggle to get through the day. Many people plan ahead and they do their best to see every potential issue that could come up so they can deal with it accordingly. There are some things that we all forget when moving and have to take care of it immediately in order to make moving day a smooth transition. Some people have lived in their current home for many years and now it is time to move away to another place and attempt to call that new place home. Here are some things to think about before you actually wake up on moving day to make the transition go a lot smoother.
Make sure you have turned on all your new utilities and turned them off at your old place when you leave along with cable and phone. You will be surprised at how many people actually forget to set up the disconnection of these utilities at their old home. Moving day or the moving process can be very hectic and many people forget what we call the simple things. For some it would be a no brainer to turn off the utilities at the old place, but sometimes, things get swept under the rug. Of course you will want to wait to turn your power and water until you have completely moved out. This way you can still see what you are doing when moving. The good thing is that you can call the utility company before hand and set up a date in which the utilities will be shut off. Then you really will not forget to turn them off, the utility company will do it for you.
Meet a few new people at your new place so you feel like you belong and also you never know when you need some help. When you are moving into a new community, the neighbors are friendly and will welcome you in as part of it. Some people will even offer to help you move your belongings in and attempt to strike up conversation to get to know you better. Encourage this because having friends in your new community is a good way to feel like this new place is just as homey as your last place. Plus having good friends close to you is always a great thing.
If you can try moving something like your boxes early before the day of move than you can have some things already set up. If you can help it do not wait until the last minute to try to move everything over. Take little by little. There is something about opening a door to an empty house that can rattle the psyche of many. If you bring some things over before the big move, it will not feel as bad and begin to envision this new place as home.

Renting Good Moving TrucksBy joel on June 10, 2011 | Comments Off

On moving day, you want everything to go according to plan. You check and recheck everything in order to make sure there is nothing you did not account for. Many times people try to do all they can to save money on moving day and do not always think about time and effort. People try to put all of their belongings into their car or minivan knowing that if they just rented a truck, things would move a lot quicker. When it comes to moving trucks, people hesitate because of the pricing of the truck rental and also because of the gas it will use. If there is one thing for sure, just because the rental company gives you a cheap deal does not mean you are getting the best deal.
When people are looking for a rental truck, price usually seems to be more important than size. However, by looking for the cheapest truck, you are putting yourself at risk for making your move more difficult than it has to be. For example, what if you cheap truck breaks down in the middle of the move? Not only is your patience tested, but your time is wasted as well.
If you choose a truck with a good name backing it, you will have fewer problems. If your truck breaks down, a good company will either send another truck or not charge you for the time your truck was down. Rental companies want to make sure your move goes well because they want positive comments and good word of mouth. They do not want people to spread how badly or how their rental truck company did not take care of them.
People often use a smaller truck than they need as well. This only adds up to more trips to and from your home. You will end up burning more gas thus spending more money. Stop trying to be cheap and get the right size truck from a reputable company. Depending on the area, you might have many rental companies to choose from. Many hope for that to be case so they do not have to settle for less than they deserve.

Come Out on Top with a Self Storage UnitBy jeff on March 9, 2011 | Comments Off

As president of her sorority, Rebecca had a lot of issues to deal with on a daily basis. Helping her sisters out with different problems, focusing on her own studies, and planning all of the activities that the house was set to participate in. Currently they were focusing on the yearly greek row talent show, and Rebecca was determined that first place was going to go to her house. They had come so close last year, but this year Rebecca was president and she was going to take the house all the way.
The sisters worked hard to pick the perfect script and they were set with which girl was going to play the roles. They all knew their assigned role in helping the house win the competition this year. They all had some kind of contribution to the success of the play.
As they started on making the sets that they had decided to make to help their performance they wanted somewhere to keep them that was secret so no one would find out what they had planned on doing this year. It was traditional that the competition would come poking around before the competition to see what everyone was going to be doing. Last year their main competition had seen their backdrops and had figured out what they were doing.
This year however, Rebecca had a plan to keep their sets a secret. Before they had even picked their scripts she had researched the Malvern, Ontario self storage units that were near their house. Her plan was that the backdrops would be competed in the backyard like they had always done. When they were done however they would be snuck out in the dark of night to their Malvern storage facility and be stored away until the day of the competition.
When Rebecca was doing her research on the different Malvern self storage unit she needed to find one not only on location, but one that was in a reasonable price and would not hurt their already tight budget, and most importantly one that allowed for twenty four hour access so that they could come and go as they please with their sets. After the competition was over they really didn’t need the self storage space anymore since the sets were all donated to local school theaters and some of the local performing arts programs so she was also looking for a Malvern storage facility that had short term leases.
Operation secret Malvern storage went off perfectly. The other competitors were all talking about what their house was going to perform because no one had been able to figure out their plans yet. They all thought that their house was not going to use any backdrops or props because no one had been able to see them.
Everyone was surprised when the curtain came up on their stage with their amazing backdrops that no one had known about. The house did go on to win the greek row talent contest that year.
After the contest was over the backdrops were donated and the Malvern storage was emptied and the goodbyes were said for now. They definitely were going to keep this great plan in mind for the next time that secrets were a must, and hopefully none of the other sororities figured out their great hiding place and they could keep the advantage to themselves.

Keeping Your Storage Unit Organized and TidyBy jeff on March 8, 2011 | 14 Comments

Many first time renters and even some long time renters make the mistake of taking the boxes and stuff that they have to put into their London, Ontario self storage unit and simply moving it all in to the unit. As long as it all fits when the door is shut that is ok right? For some people that may work if they don’t need to get anything out of storage again, but for most people that philosophy would not work. You have to maintain and organize your self storage unit so that when you need to find something it is available.
Here are a few helpful hints in organizing and maintaining your self storage unit.
The organization of your London self storage unit really starts before you even move your boxes into the unit itself. When you are packing you should try to get boxes that are the same size. There may be items that require larger boxes, but it the majority of the boxes are the same size they will be easier to stack. You also want to make sure that you have plenty of packing tape, bubble wrap for those more delicate items as well as a permanent marker of some kind.
As items are packed you should label the boxes so that you can see what is in the boxes without digging through every box. You should also use the marker to make sure that you distinguish the boxes that have breakable items in them as fragile and that you mark the boxes that are heavy so that when you go to pick that box up you are prepared for something heavy.
When you actually get your boxes and stuff over to your London self storage facility you don’t want to just load all of the boxes in you want to go about it in an organized manner. The items that you will probably not ever going to need can be placed in the back of the self storage unit. The items that you may need to get to can go in next, and the items that you know you will need eventually should be closest to the door.
It can also help to keep all of the boxes that belong together in the same area. for example if you have four boxes of Christmas decorations you want to stack them in the same area so you don’t have to look all over the storage unit for them. Also make sure that the boxes that are labeled fragile are not stacked at the bottom of your London self storage unit.
Perhaps one of the most important tips is that after to have your self storage unit set up in an organized fashion maintain it that way. If you need to get something out of a box and let’s say you have to move a few boxes to get there then make sure that you put the boxes back where they were so that everything is stacked up and organized again.
It is possible to set up your self storage unit and maintain it so that it is well organized. It does take some hard work but it will be worth it when you have no trouble finding your stuff. You can be a successful self storage renter.

Security and Location Key Factors in StorageBy jeff on March 4, 2011 | 391 Comments

When you are shopping for Flemingdon Park storage units you may discover an overwhelming amount of information. If you are new to the process of shopping for Ontario storage, you may not realize what makes one facility different than the next. There are many things that will set certain Flemingdon Park storage units apart from the next. Some of them are obvious and some are not.
The biggest mistake that you can make when shopping for Flemingdon Park storage units is to try to find the absolute cheapest storage unit that you can find. The stuff that you are storing is your stuff and you should make sure that you take care of it while you store. Otherwise, there is really no point in storing in the first place. You might as well just set all of the stuff by the curb and have the garbage man pick it up. You could also have a garage sale if you are really just trying to get rid of the stuff. One of the main problems with Flemingdon Park storage units is that they leak because they are built poorly. You would not leave your things out in the rain so you should not leave them in a storage unit that is going to assure than they are soaked. This will ruin your things because of molds and mildews.
Luckily, most sites in Ontario care about their company image and know that they will never be able to achieve long term success with poorly made storage units. You should look for a facility with quality Flemingdon Park storage units that will keep your things safe while you store. You should check out the security features that the site offers. Good security is one thing that is worth a few extra dollars worth of monthly rent. You should ask about what the facility has when you call in. They should be able to rattle off a few key features and you should follow up and check out the features for yourself by setting up a site visit.
The site should be in a good location. It is worth the extra money to have a space that you can get to easily when you need to. Nothing could be worse than having to travel a great distance just to make a simple visit to your storage unit to get something. You may think to yourself that you will not need to visit the site so the location does not matter. If you have ever stored before, you know this is just simply not true. There will always be times when you need to get something important out of your storage unit. The location also plays a part in security, as well. Do not get a storage unit at a facility that is in a bad neighborhood. You will not feel safe when you visit and could actually put yourself at great personal risk if you have to visit the site after dark. After the office closes for the day, there is nobody at the site to make sure that everything is on the up and up. Some sites have managers that live on the property, but they are hard to find. You may want to find a site that has a manager that lives on site because of the added security.

Finding the Perfect Storage UnitBy jeff on February 18, 2011 | 878 Comments

Justin was sitting at his computer researching Dorset Park, Ontario self storage units. He did not need to make a decision today, but he needed to make this choice soon. He wanted to make sure that he was making the best decision because he only wanted to pack and move his stuff into a self storage unit once and be done with it.
He had started his research on Dorset Park self storage units by price first, but the majority of the self storage facilities were pretty much in the same ball park, there were a few locations that had low prices but no there amenities and he took those locations off the list of facilities in the running.
Next he checked the lists off by amenities. He wanted something that had enough security that he felt his stuff would be safe while it was in storage, but he did not want to pay for enough security that he felt like he was entering into a fort. There were a few more locations that he checked off his list of potential Dorset Park self storage units for the amenities that are listed.
Next he looked into each of the physical locations that he had left on his list. He did not need to access his self storage unit very often so narrowing down the facility by location was not at the top of his list, but he also did not want to drive that far from his home if he did need to get into his self storage unit.
The list was narrowed down to his top three picks and Justin set out to visit each of the Dorset Park self storage facilities that he had left on his list. It was a pretty close race between the three locations and he was looking for something to separate the choices so he would be able to pick the best location for his stuff.
The first two locations had all of the amenities that were listed for them and Justin was unsure how he was going to pick. The third location was very similar to the other ones and had all of the amenities that were listed. However, at the third location the manager showed him around and showed him a unit that was the size that he was looking for. He took the time to answer all of his questions about being a first time self storage renter. Justin knew that this was the right Dorset Park self storage unit for him. He was won over by the friendly atmosphere.
That weekend Justin moved in all of his boxes and odds and ends into his self storage unit. He organized them and made sure that all of the boxes were labeled. He wanted to be able to find the stuff in his self storage unit easily. He even took the time to make a master list of items in his storage unit so he would know if an item that he was searching for was in storage or he needed to search his apartment more thoroughly.
With all of the extra space he now had with his boxes moved into storage he was able to move around his apartment much easier. Justin was glad that he had taken his time to find the right locations.

Keep in Tune with Self StorageBy jeff on February 10, 2011 | 5 Comments

Music has long been heralded for its therapeutic capability. Anyone can go to the local record store and buy the latest CD, but learning to play an instrument can be emotionally gratifying and a fun hobby. However, musical instruments and their equipment can take up quite a bit of space, and have special handling needs. Here are some tips for storing your musical instruments:
- The critical first step is finding a climate controlled place for storing your instruments. Excessive temperatures and humidity can be very damaging to delicate instruments, particularly those made of wood. So storing them in your basement or garage is not the answer. If you don’t have a place at home for storing your instruments, a climate controlled Keelesdale storage unit is the ideal answer for you. Your instruments will be kept in an area with consistent levels of temperature and humidity, no matter what the external weather conditions may be.
- Prepare your instruments prior to storage. Clean and polish them appropriately. Remove reeds, mouthpieces, mutes and other removable parts. Relax the strings on your guitar, bass, cello or other stringed instrument.
- Whenever possible, store your instrument in its original case. Cases should be clean and in quality condition. Before closing the case on a stringed instrument, drape a cloth over the strings.
- Pianos and organs should be covered with a sheet or tarp to prevent the buildup of dirt and dust.
- Store your instruments away from the door and any vents of your storage unit.
- Store all instruments off the ground. Shelves for small instruments and pallets for pianos, organs, etc. are ideal.
- If you are storing a piano, you should consider having it moved by professionals.
- If you’re storing songbooks, sheet music, CD’s, DVD’s or any stored music (e.g. flash drives, external hard drives, etc.), keep those items in a waterproof, airtight plastic containers.
- You might also want to consider purchasing insurance for your instruments. If it’s valuable enough for you to go through all the precautions involved with storing it, then it’s probably valuable enough for you to insure it. For that reason, you’ll also want to keep a precise inventory (with photographs) of everything you store.
If you have any specific questions regarding the storage of your musical instruments, speaking with one of your local storage facility’s well-trained manager of staff members should provide the answers you need.
Now that you know how to keep your stored musical instruments safe, you can also take advantage of an added benefit to maintaining a climate controlled Keelesdale storage unit. It provides the perfect place for you to practice the playing of your instruments. You’ll be in an area that is free of distraction, and you won’t have to worry if your playing is disturbing anyone else in your home or your neighbors. This can really help beginners, who might otherwise allow their self-consciousness to lead them to giving up on learning to play without ever having giving themselves a chance.
Everyone loves music. If your love runs so deeply you want to make own music, you can rely on Keelesdale storage to protect your valuable instruments and equipment.
