Get Ready To Shop For Storage
-
Typically speaking, people are going through a lot of stress when they’re shopping around for self storage units. Indeed, people don’t tend to need self storage units when they’re going through periods of comfort and stability. Moving from one home to another, helping out a family member in need, or clearing out much needed space in your basement or garage are typically the kinds of projects that you’re tackling when you start calling around for a storage unit, and they all carry with them a pretty serious amount of stress. Really, though, when you sit down and think about it, you do not have to worry about the process of calling around and looking for a self storage unit. It’s an easy process, and it’s not one that is really going to bog you down once you get into swing of things. If you have never shopped around for storage before, keep a few of the following things in mind as you are starting out.
For one, be sure that you take a careful inventory of the items that you are going to be storing. The last thing that you are going to want to do, here, is call around without a clear indication of what you’re trying to store. Every property manager is going to ask you what you’re storing, so you’re going to end up saving yourself a ton of time by having your response prepared ahead of time. It’s also worth noting, here, that very few managers are going to be willing to give you a full price list over the phone, as they are worried about letting their information end up in the hands of their competitors. Thus, they are going to want you to be more specific so that they can narrow their size list down to a couple of suitable options.
Second of all, here, be sure that you are packing your belongings before you begin to call around. If you do not pack your belongings before you size them up, then chances are that you are going to rent a unit that is going to be far too large. As you’ll quickly see, your belongings do not occupy very much space when they are all boxed up and ready to go. If you can’t pack everything up before you start to shop around, at least think along these lines and be sure that you are not renting a unit that is too big (and too expensive).
Finally, here, be sure that you are not getting tired of the process too quickly. Sure, you may not enjoy calling around for hours on end, hearing the sales pitches of every facility in your area. Really, though, this is a necessary evil. While they may all look the same from the street, different stores are going to offer drastically different features and amenities—not to mention different prices. Without calling around to all of your local facilities, you simply are not going to have a very solid understanding of what your options are, and which facilities are going to be able to keep your belongings safe. It’s also worth mentioning, here, that you should also call around because different facilities are going to offer different special deals, many of which are going to make your moving situation or household project much easier to bear (financially, of course).
At the end of the day, you are not going to have to worry about very much when it comes to shopping around for self storage units. Heed the advice that you see above, and be sure that you are not skipping over any important steps.
