There is nothing worse than the nagging feeling of insecurity. You store your items in Montreal Storage units  but are not sure that your items will be safe. Well, you can rest assured than most of the storing facilities today are secure. They have some pretty high tech systems to ensure your items are looked after. After all, it would not look good for them if someone had their things stolen.

First of all they have the infamous front gate pin pad. You can not even get in the gate without a pass code that was specifically assigned to you. Some facilities will assign you a number and some will let you choose one. If you are allowed to choose your own pass code, do not make it something that can be guessed easy. Avoid such numbers as your phone number, house number, and birthday. Just in case there is someone who knows you that may want to pay your goods a visit.

If someone does access your Montreal Storage units , they are most likely being monitored. The reason why everyone gets their own pass code is so there is a log of entry and exit. If someone does decide to steal something, the front office can look up when the pass code was last used and review the security cameras. Nearly all modern complexes have video surveillance. These units are usually monitored 24 hours and even have special optics for night visibility.

Although the self storage facility does have a good built in security system, do just depend on them to keep your items safe. You can help deter thieves by using a good name brand lock. The extra money spent will be well worth it. You can even buy a cheap door alarm to put on your unit. Alarm units are placed above the door and every time the door opens they make a shrieking sound. Of course the downside of this is, it will sound when you open the door too. All of these items can be found at your local hardware store for fairly cheap and can make enough noise to detour the bandits.

Thieves are not the only thing that you need to worry about in a self storage facility. Rodents are a big problem when it comes to storing things. Avoid storing any foods. Even though your facility looks clean, those pesky little critters always seem to find a way in. As a matter of fact most places prohibit you from storing your food in the facilities for that very reason. You may even want to ask your unit manager what they do to keep the pests out. Sometimes they put poison packs in the corners so you might want to keep an eye on your small children. If you do feel unsafe with the poison being there, in most cases they will remove them for you.

If you have followed all the safety tips and rules for a self storage facility and still feel your goods are not as safe as they should be, there is always unit insurance. For a nominal fee you can get the same kind of insurance on your unit as you do for your house. It is based off the amount of policy you want and covers your goods just like at home. In fact, most storing units have the information you need to get started on a policy. Just ask the clerk at the front counter how you can get insurance. He will help you.
